Greeneville TN to Dayton, Ohio
As mentioned before, we developed a couple of problems with the coach portion of the RV, so we are going to use this opportunity to head on up to the factory in Elkhart, IN. Richard called them up yesterday morning and they scheduled us up for tomorrow. Because of this we have to alter our trip a bit. Instead of heading east to Asheville, North Carolina (we really wanted to tour the Biltmore House there), we decided to head to Elkhart. A good stop along the way would be to visit Richard's aunt and uncle (88 and 94 years old respectively), as well as cousin Jeanne and her husband Ted, who live in Centerville (near Dayton) Ohio. We left Greeneville area and headed northeast on US Hwy 25e. There we stopped at Bean Station, overlooking a valley with a wonderful view. A sign there indicated that Bean Station was the site of the first "white" settlement in Tennessee. A photo of the view from Bean Station is posted to the right. The sign further indicated that the valley below us was used as a "Warpath" for Cherokees, led Daniel Boone to Cumberland Gap, and was often traveled by Davy Crockett. During the Civil War, the Battle of Bean Station was fought there. We ultimately traveled north on Interstate 75 and 71, traveled over the Ohio River, through Cincinnati and up to the campgroud at Cesear Creek State Park. We got settled in our site, and then traveled the half hour ride up to Aunt Roddy, Uncle Ray, and Ted and Jeanne's beautiful new home in Centerville for a lovely dinner and evening. Uncle Ray was a little confused and thought we were there to buy the house out from under him. We hope to visit them again later in this trip. We are posting a photo of Richard holding the "whirligig" which he recovered at our last campground. (This is discussed in the prior blog.)
