Dayton, OH to Elkhart, Indiana
The trip to Elkhart, where the manufacturer of our RV is located, was uneventful, so we will concentrate on our stay in Elkhart. We stayed at a private RV park just a few miles away from the factory. We desperately wanted to wash the RV and truck. While the park rules indicated no RV washing was permitted, Steve convinced the owner to allow us to do it by giving him an extra $7. We had picked up lots of bugs all over the front of the RV, and they were extremely difficult to get off. When we were in Tennessee, we went through a road construction area where the work involved blasting operations in solid rock. This created lots of dust which was all over the passenger side of the RV and truck. We arose this morning at 6:30 AM (Steve's morning back rub was too short!) and arrived at the RV manufacturers plant at 7:30. To our surprise the technician said they would be completely finished with the work by noon. We spent the time touring the RV/Motor home Museum in Elkhart. Upon arrival, we were surprised by the size of the building. Inside, are numerous "historical" RVs going back to "tent campers" from the early part of the 20th Century. We took numerous photos of this excellent display, a few of them are posted to the right. If anyone would like to see other photos of RVs on display, go to this site: www.rvmhhalloffame.org. Then click on "RV Founders Hall" and after that page displays, click on "View Current Museum Inventory." There is also a very extensive library with copies of various periodicals relating to the history of RVs. We then returned to our RVs manufacturer and found that the work had been completed by noon. No charge!

ReplyDeleteHey guys, That RV museum looks like a hoot! You sure know how to find spots of true Americana. Thanks for the lo-tech postcard Richard! You both seem like you're having fun on this trip. I also get the impression that it's a lot less stressful than with the Alpine behemoth. Safe travels! --Cole and Steve
ReplyDeleteP.S. Next time we visit, we'll have to drive... a buyer is coming to get the plane next week. :-(
