Cresson, PA to Lehighton, PA

Unfortunately, we have encountered a great deal of rain in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Everyone we have spoken to about the weather back here has said that this is one of the coolest and rainiest summers in memory. Richard loves cool. Steve hates the rain when traveling. We said our goodbyes to Ron in Cresson. Because we had to meet friends from NYC at a campground in eastern Pennsylvania in the early afternoon, we traveled most of the way to Lehighton on Interstate 80 rather than taking side roads. It was raining when we left Cresson, and then it poured heavily all the way to the campground. The rain was so hard at times that many vehicles were pulled over to the side of the interstate or under bridges. Luckily, we timed our arrival within 15 minutes of the arrival of Bill and Eric. Photo to the right with Bill and Eric. Several times on this trip we have used the weekends to stop the driving for a couple of days and just rest and relax. This stop continued that experience. We had a wonderful time with Bill and Eric. Saturday turned sunny and we all took advantage by taking a nice hike and passed a large pond, through forest and by a pretty stream. In the stream we noticed that someone had stacked rocks and stones in interesting patterns. Photo to the right. The campground had arranged several activities on Saturday. The first was a series of competitions, consisting of an onion shot put toss, an egg toss, a 50 yd run after being spun around 5 times, a three legged race, and a rope tug of war. We both entered, but didn't do well, because as Richard explained...most of our competitors were half our ages! Oh well, it was fun, though Steve, being the competitor he is wasn't happy with the results. There was also a toga party in the evening. We were unaware this was on the agenda so were only observers. The costumes were very elaborate. This campground has a small night club with dancing and music by a live DJ. It was "foam night." It didn't take long before we found out that what that meant was that huge amounts of "foam," actually soap suds poured out of some sort of machine in the ceiling, virtually covering the dance floor...so much so that we could barely see each other while trying to dance with each other. Unfortunately, we did not have the camera with us. Trust us, though, it was pretty wild! Originally, Bill was going to join us camping for a few days as we traveled, and perhaps as far as Burning Man. Bill had come to Lehighton with our mutual friend, Eric, in Eric's RV. Since our RV only accommodates us and Tinsel, Bill brought his tent. Largely due to the rain and having to deal with the tent, Bill decided not to continue the trip with us. We hope to one day soon see Bill and Eric at Lake Nacimiento.
