La Cygne, Kansas to Branson, Missouri
We left Linn County Park without getting into any more trouble and continued south on US Hwy 69. We passed thru Fort Scott, Kansas which bills itself as "the boyhood home of Gordon Parks" (google that name...it's an interesting story). At Fort Scott, we turned east onto US Hwy 54 into Missouri. Our tradition is that when we pass over a state line, we kiss, and that can be difficult when driving on a narrow two lane road! We then turned south again on Missouri State Hwy 13, and after a brief stop at a truck stop for lunch, we continued to Springfield, Missouri. We made a brief stop there at the Camping World (for you non-RVers it's a store that has everything you need for an RV). We have the Western Edition of the Guide to Free Campgrounds and wanted the Eastern Edition, but unfortunately, they were sold out. We'll have to pick up that very useful guide later in the trip. Down US Hwy 65 we traveled into Branson to visit Steve's brother, Ron and his wife Orvilyn. After we set up at Long Creek Campground adjacent to Table Rock Lake, an Army Corps of Engineer campground, we drove our truck into Branson to meet Ron and Orvilyn for dinner at the Farmhouse Restaurant. For dessert we had their famous (and sinfully delicious) blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. We will be in the Branson area for four days. We will post again as we leave. For those of you unfamiliar with Branson, Missouri, it is a big entertainment center in this part of the country. It is in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. Lots of music theatres...mostly country, hillbilly and big name stars...both past and present.
