Branson, Missouri
We spent 3 and 1/2 days at Bronson. There are numerous theatres here, mostly music, and mostly country, but not all are country. We've noticed in our present and previous visits that there is always a strong gospel and patriotic current in the shows. We went to two shows with Ron snd Orvilyn the "world famous Platters" ( "Only You," "My Prayer," "Smoke Get in Your Eyes," "Harbor Lights,") and Six. The Platters had numerous hits in the 50's and 60's. We also saw the show "Six." "Six" is a group of six brothers. Dubbed "an orchestra of human voices," it's hard to believe what comes out of their mouths! There is no accompanying orchestra, but the sounds they make, you would swear there is a full orchestra there. They sing in full harmony, and astonishing vocal ranges. It was a fabulous evening. They also did a special salute to all veterans in the audience, and Steve had to unwillingly stand up. Thanks to Ellen and Tracy who we met at the Rainbow RV rally in Denver for recommending this show. Ron and Orvilyn also took us to see "Titanic," a museum about the famous ship. It had everything from a real iceberg (Richard's opportunity to get very cold), to an incredible amount of personal belongings of passengers, and details of the ship's construction, sailing and discovery. We also each stuck a hand in 28F degree water to see how long we could take it. It was enough for about 45 seconds. 28F degrees was the temperature of the water where the Titanic sunk. Most of the deaths occurred from hypothermia in about 20 minutes. An interesting feature was that each person entering the museum was given a brochure detailing the life of one of the passengers. At the end of the tour, we were able to read the fate of our passenger. To the right you will see Ron, Orvilyn and Steve standing in front of the museum. We were in Branson on Independence Day. Unlike California, there are many fireworks stands selling all sorts of fireworks. Amazingly, one can purchase rockets there...the type of firworks that shoot up high into the sky and explode, exactly like one would see being launched at a professional display. So, driving by residences, we saw people shooting these things in the air, with sparks falling all over the area! Scary to say the least! Also, another fact about Branson. It has a population of 6,000; however, they have traffic jams similar to any metro area at ruch hour. This is due to the huge tourist population there. Fortunately, Ron knows all the shortcuts.
