Waukesha, WI to Davenport, Iowa
We left Waukesha at 7AM in order to get to our RV manufacturer in Elkhart as soon as possible. We would be going from Central Time to Eastern Time so we were going to lose an hour in the drive. We had little choice but to go through Chicago on the toll road. We passed right through downtown close to the skyline of Chicago. Photo. Continuing on, we arrived in Elkhart after about 4 1/2 hours. As has been our prior experience at Phoenix USA, the workers stopped and immediately began working on putting the awning together and onto the RV. The work was done inside the factory as we sat at the table inside the RV eating lunch. Steve said he felt strange eating in front of the workers, so Richard opened the window screen and held out a bag of chips...they politely declined. Photos. They were completed in one hour. Even the owner of the company was right in there working on it. Upon completion, Steve asked for the bill, and the owner said, "no charge." So, on this trip we have stopped in Elkhart three times for repairs and despite the fact the RV is no longer in warranty, all work done was without charge. This company really means it when they say the customer comes first! We left Elkhart and traveled onto US Hwy 12 in southwestern Michigan. The area around the Michigan/Indiana border is known locally as "Michiana." Since we had already spent over $20 in tolls going from Milwaukee to Elkhart, we bypassed the interstate and took the Lincoln Hwy (US Hwy 30) until we could get around the toll zone. Back onto I-80, we traveled west to the Illinois/Iowa border at the Mississippi River. There, we spent the night at Fisherman's Corner Campground. This was another Army Corps of Engineer Camp. We paid $8 for the night with electric.
