Joliet, IL to Waukesha, Wisconsin

We are going to Waukesha, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. Joliet is south of Chicago. Milwaukee is north of Chicago. We have traveled through Chicago in the past, and do not want to do it ever again! Heavy traffic, lots of trucks, toll ways and construction constitute our experience with Chicago traffic. Therefore, we decided to take the longer, scenic route by going several miles west on Interstate 80 before heading north on Illinois 47. Before long, we were passing vast expanses of farmland (photo). We then entered the small town of Elburn, Illinois where the people there were preparing for a parade. Chairs were set up along the road and vendors were cooking food. Since it was lunch time, we decided to stop and see what was available to eat. Also, we noticed some old cars there, a 1930's era yellow Buick, a 1952 red Studebaker, and a 1948 F-1 Ford truck. Photos of the parade preparation, and cars. For lunch, we had a bratwurst and a cheesewurst. "Brats" as they are called are extremely popular in this part of the country. It was difficult finding a parking place due to the narrow streets, but found one next to some huge metal tanks (photo). However, when we drove away, we were stopped by a policeman, who told us that we should not be driving over the scales there as the town had just spent several thousand dollars to install it. "Just to let you know" he said, "you are free to go." We quickly left and headed north through Lake Geneva, Wisconsin before arriving at Steve's cousin's beautiful home in Waukesha, Wisconsin. We will stay with Sally and Bob for three nights. We called Elkhart and learned the third awning part had arrived. They put us down for a Monday appointment for awning repairs.
