Ithaca, NY to Dansville, NY
We left the Light family in Caroline on State Hw 79 and traveled the short distance to Ithaca, the home of Cornell University, where Randy received his BA and MBA. There we stopped for a short time to visit with Naomi Hollister, 90. She was a dear friend of Randy, and now ours. A wonderfull person who until recently, spent her time tutoring children of foreign professors the English language. We then continued on Hwy 79 to Watkins Glen, NY where we had lunch with Wilma Russell and her grandson Chris. Watkins Glen is home to a famous car race track and race fans were arriving for the big NASCAR race this weekend. Wilma, 87, is the sister to Eloise. Chris owns a 100 ft schooner yacht, "Malabar VII," built in 1926. This vessel is the epitome of fine wooden racing schooners. He operates group and private charters during the summer months here on Lake Seneca, one of the "finger lakes," and then sails the vessel down the Erie Canal to the Hudson River and then down the Atlantic coast to Florida for winter cruises. Photo of Wilma and Chris and Chris' boat to the right. We then left Watkins Glen and traveled the 1 hour drive to Dansville, NY for a weekend with Rick and Ann Lafford at their beautful hill top home.

Got your voicemail... can't wait to see photos and more details about your adventures in Dansville (I won't spoil it for others reading this). Since you're still in upstate NY, is there any chance you'll have time to swing by western NC this Wednesday night or Thursday? We'll be at my parents' place by around 7pm Wednesday night, which is about 45 miles east on I-40 from I-81. There's lots of room for you to sleep in a real bed! We're going to Dollywood on Thursday, so you could meet us there, too.
